Why the CSA
Why the Common Sense Alliance?
In 2009, before a draft amended Critical Area Ordinance (“CAO”) was introduced, several concerned San Juan County citizens recognized the need for a science based, informed, balanced and common sense approach to environmental regulations. They envisioned an organization that would be:
· Education driven—focused upon facts, data and the law;
· Non-political;
· Aware of the uniqueness of the islands and concerned with local issues;
· Not driven by outside agency agendas; and
· Able to raise the public’s awareness of the process and the law required to be used by the County Council in updating the county code.
